چکیده

Background: Osteoporosis progresses with advancing age. Estimation of bone mineral density (BMD) using dual energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) is valuable in predicting fracture risk the elderly. DXA machines however may not always be available under-resourced developing countries. Aim: To find values CTI and CFI normal adult young old, male female population Southern Punjab. Study design: Cross-sectional study Methods: Measurements were recorded from 107 anteroposterior radiographs proximal femur subjects divided two groups: Young: 22 26 females mean age 28±3.4 Old: 31 28 61+5.2. Results: Statistical comparison between for was significant Y O groups. Similar while Y-group highly O-group. In overall groups difference very CFI; both showing higher Y-group. Conclusion; measured are reliable parameters can recommended preliminary assessment Keywords: Proximal femur, morphometry, cortical thickness index (CTI), canal flare (CFI),

The cortical thickness of the proximal humeral diaphysis predicts bone mineral density of the proximal humerus.

The operative treatment of fractures of the proximal humerus can be complicated by poor bone quality. Our aim was to evaluate a new method which allows prediction of the bone quality of the proximal humerus from radiographs. Anteroposterior radiographs were taken of 19 human cadaver humeri. The cortical thickness was measured at two levels of the proximal humeral diaphysis. The bone mineral den...

The effect of alendronate treatment on cortical thickness of the proximal femur in postmenopausal women

Background: Bisphosphonates (BPs) are used extensively for managing the osteoporosis. There are some controversies on atypical fractures of femur that associated with increase in cortical thickness (CT) and BPs’ use. In this study, the effects of alendronate consumption were studied on femoral CT as a predictor for atypical fracture.   Methods: Forty nine post-menopausal women age...

Bone density study of the proximal femur after hip arthroplasty with porous-coated implants

Progressive loss of bone mineral density around the femora! component of total hip replacement continues to pose a threat to long term prosthetic survival. A linear study was undertaken to measure bone mineral density on a monthly basis following total hip arthroplasty in 11 male patients. The opposite femur was used as the control measurement. Bone mineral density was unchanged at two mo...

Reduction of trabecular and cortical volumetric bone mineral density at the proximal femur in patients with acromegaly.

OBJECTIVE Data on dual energy absorptiometry (DXA)-measured bone mineral density (BMD) at the level of the total hip (TH) and femoral neck (FN) in patients with acromegaly (ACRO) are conflicting. Increase in bone size associated with ACRO may limit the reliability of DXA. Our objective is to evaluate trabecular and cortical volumetric BMD (vBMD) across the proximal femur in ACRO patients. DES...

Lumbar spine and proximal femur bone mineral density, bone mineral content, and bone area: United States, 2005-2008.

OBJECTIVE This report presents bone measurement data from dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry scans of the lumbar spine and proximal femur for persons aged 8 years and over from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) 2005-2008. METHODS Means, standard deviations, and selected percentiles were calculated for the proximal femur and lumbar spine (total and subregions) by sex,...
